Lane County Jail Roster Overview
The Lane County Sheriff's Office runs Adult Corrections and the county jail. The Lane County Jail is the only jail in the county that can hold people charged with felony-level crimes. Carl Wilkerson is the current sheriff. The Board of County Commissioners appointed him in June 2025 after Sheriff Clifton Harrold retired. The Corrections Division runs both traditional and alternative custody programs for pretrial and sentenced adults in the sheriff's care.
The roster lives in an online tool the sheriff calls the Web Jail Viewer. It lists adults in custody, or AICs, and the core facts of each booking. The data updates regularly, but it can change fast as people are booked and released. The county warns that a listing does not mean a person is guilty. Anyone in the viewer has only been processed into custody.
The viewer has clear limits. It shows current custody only. Past jail lodgings are no longer posted online. It does not show people held by the Oregon Department of Corrections in state prison, and it does not show federal custody. Booking photos are gone too. An Oregon law that took effect January 1, 2022 bars the release of most booking photos, so mugshots were pulled from the tool.
The Lane County Sheriff's Office page is the front door for jail and inmate services.
The sheriff's main page links to the jail, records, and the inmate viewer in one spot.
From there you can open the jail records page or jump straight to the inmate search.
How to Use the Lane County Jail Roster
The Web Jail Viewer is free and needs no account. You search by name or by booking date range, then open a record for the full detail. The steps below walk through a basic Lane County inmate search from start to finish.
- Open the Lane County Web Jail Viewer and read the warning page about current custody and accuracy.
- Go to the booking search form and type a last name, a first name, or both.
- If you are unsure of the spelling, use the wildcard. The percent sign stands in for missing letters, such as M% or sm%th.
- Narrow a busy result by adding a booking date range with the date pickers.
- Click View on a row to open the full booking detail, including charges, court dates, and bond.
The jail information and AIC records page explains the viewer, records requests, mail, phone, video, and commissary in one place.
It is the best starting point when you want both the roster and the rules around contact.
Lane County Inmate Search Fields
The booking search form keeps things short. You can search by any single field or by a mix of fields. Names cap at 20 characters, and the wildcard works in either name box. The date fields use a calendar picker in mm/dd/yy format. The table below lists what the form accepts.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Notes / Format |
|---|---|---|---|
| Last Name | Text | Optional | Up to 20 characters. Wildcard % works anywhere, such as M% or sm%th. |
| First Name | Text | Optional | Up to 20 characters. Wildcard % also accepted. |
| Booking From Date | Date picker | Optional | mm/dd/yy format. Sets the start of a booking date range. |
| Booking To Date | Date picker | Optional | mm/dd/yy format. Sets the end of the booking date range. |
| Search | Button | Yes to run | Runs the query and shows a brief "Searching..." overlay. |
| Clear | Button | No | Resets the form fields. |
Results come back in a sortable list. You can sort by booking number, first name, last name, middle name, race, sex, booking date, release date, and scheduled release date. The release column often shows blank for people still in custody.
Note: Use the percent sign wildcard for the Lane jail search, but switch to an asterisk for the Oregon state prison search, since the two tools use different symbols.
What a Lane County Inmate Profile Shows
Click View on a result and you reach the Booking Search Detail page. This is the full record for one booking. It opens with the person's name and a red status button that reads "IN CUSTODY as of" a date. From there the record breaks into sections for the person, the charges, the arrest, and the court and bond. The table below lists the main fields you can expect to see.
| Field | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Name | First, middle, and last name in the record header. |
| Custody Status | A status button such as IN CUSTODY with the date it was true. |
| Booking Number | The unique number for this jail booking. |
| Inmate ID | The internal ID for the person in the jail system. |
| Booking Date | The date the person was processed into the jail. |
| Scheduled Release | A planned release date when one is set. |
| Charges | Each charge with a sequence number, the ORS or code violation, a description, and a status such as Cleared. |
| Level | The charge level, such as M for misdemeanor. |
| Warrant Number | A warrant number tied to the booking, when one applies. |
| Arrest Agency | The agency that made the arrest. |
| Case Number | The arrest case number from the arresting agency. |
| Court Case # | The court case number tied to the charges. |
| Next Court Date | The next scheduled court appearance. |
| Bond / Bail | Required bond and bail, including bond group, required amount, and required cash. |
The record also lists a personal description with age, sex, race, hair, eyes, height, and weight, plus an OBTS number and an end-of-sentence date. Two buttons let you start a New Search or go Back. No mugshot appears, which matches the county policy.
Important: A booking listing is not proof of guilt. Everyone in the viewer is in custody but not yet convicted, so verify any fact with the jail or court before you rely on it.
Lane County Jail Facilities and Contacts
Both the Main Jail and the offender management office sit at the same downtown Eugene address. The Main Jail handles intake and release and holds pretrial and sentenced adults. The Corrections Division page covers the jail's size, history, and inmate services in detail.
It is the source for the bed count and the programs the jail runs.
Lane County Jail Capacity
The Main Jail was built in 1979. The county added on in 1988 and again in 1999. The Corrections Division lists total capacity at 411 beds. The jail acts as the county intake and release center. It holds pretrial offenders and sentenced offenders who are not a fit for less costly alternative custody programs.
Money has shaped how full the jail can run. After a jail-bed levy passed in 2013, the sheriff reopened housing areas that had been closed. That move cut the number of capacity-based releases, where people had been let go early just to free up beds. The jail provides meals, showers, phones, commissary, clean clothes twice a week, and clean linen once a week. It also offers medical, dental, and psychiatric care, plus GED classes, alcohol and drug education, wellness, and religious services.
For numbers on who is held and how the jail population breaks down, see jail population data.
Booking and Classification in Lane County
Booking is the intake step at the jail. Staff record the person, the charges, and the arrest details, and the new booking shows up in the viewer once it is processed. Every adult in custody is classified at entry. The jail weighs the current charges, past criminal acts, prior behavior while held, and other risk and functioning factors.
Classification decides where a person is housed. Some are placed in single cells. Others go to dormitory-style housing. Recreation and time out of the cell depend on that classification too. This is why two people booked the same day can have very different daily routines inside the jail.
In-custody arraignments are held at the jail, not at the main courthouse. Eugene Municipal Court arraignments run at 11:00 a.m. The Lane County Circuit Court arraignments run at 1:30 p.m. Viewers should arrive 30 minutes early for security. Food, drink, and electronic devices are not allowed in the viewing area, and only limited lockers are available at Jail Reception.
If You Cannot Find a Lane County Inmate
If a name does not show in the viewer, the county says the person is not currently in custody at the jail. Spelling is the most common snag, so try the wildcard or search by last name alone. Remember the tool shows current custody only. A person who was released, or who is held by another agency, will not appear.
When the jail roster comes up empty, the right next step is often a court. Different courts handle different cases across the county. Use the matching court line below to check a case or a court date.
- Lane County Circuit Court: 541-682-4020
- Eugene Municipal Court: 541-682-5400
- Springfield Municipal Court: 541-726-3748
- Lane Justice Court: 541-997-2535
- Florence Municipal Court: 541-997-3123
For people who recently left custody, see released inmates. If a warrant may be the reason for a hold, check warrant records. The underlying charges sit in the case file, which you can reach through arrest records.
Lane County Inmate Search Tools
The Web Jail Viewer opens with a warning page before the search form. It states that the list covers people processed into Lane County Adult Corrections who are in custody and not necessarily guilty, that data can change quickly, that past lodgings are not posted, and that mugshots were removed under the Oregon booking-photo law.
The warning page sets the ground rules before you run a Lane County inmate search.
Read it once so the limits of the tool are clear, then move to the search form.
The booking search form is where the actual Lane County jail roster search happens.
Enter a name or a booking date range here, then sort the results to find the right booking.
State Prison and Federal Inmate Search
The Lane County jail is for local custody. Once a person is sentenced to state prison, their record moves to the Oregon Department of Corrections. The state runs its own offender search, and it works differently from the county tool. The biggest difference is the wildcard. Oregon DOC uses an asterisk, not the percent sign the county uses.
The Oregon DOC offender search lets you look up adults in state custody or community corrections.
Use the Oregon DOC offender search for state prison, and note that official or certified records still take a public records request.
Federal custody is separate again. A person held by the federal Bureau of Prisons will not appear in the county or state tools. For that, use the federal Bureau of Prisons locator, which searches by name or by federal register number. The same person can have a Lane County booking, an Oregon DOC record, and a federal record depending on the custody path.
How to Contact a Lane County Inmate
The jail runs phone, video, and messages through Smart Communications. Commissary and money services run through Access Corrections and Access Securepak. To start, set up an account and deposit funds at SmartInmate.com or by calling Customer Care at 727-349-1561. Several free options come with each week or month, then extra contact carries small fees.
Mail works in an unusual way here. All regular postal mail, including letters, postcards, and greeting cards, is scanned into the system. The adult in custody then reads it on a tablet or a housing-area kiosk. Because of that, mail goes to a processing center in Florida, not to the jail's street address.
Note: Address inmate mail to Smart Communications, Lane County Adult Corrections, with the inmate name and ID, c/o Mail Processing Center, PO Box 9225, Seminole, FL 33775-9225.
Phones inside the jail are for outgoing calls only. Adults in custody cannot get incoming calls, and staff will not pass along messages. Calls are recorded, except calls to verified attorneys and clergy. Calling cards do not work, and three-way or unwanted calls are blocked. Posted phone rates run $0.09 per minute for local, in-state, out-of-state, and international calls. TTY service is available on request.
Lane County Inmate Visitation and Calls
Most contact at the Lane County Jail happens through screens and phones, not face to face. Some of it is free. Smart Communications gives each adult in custody a set of free calls and messages, and the jail lobby offers free video stations during business hours. The schedule below lists the main communication windows and what they cost.
| Service | Window or Limit | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Free phone calls | 5 per week, up to 15 minutes each | Free |
| Remote video visit | 1 per week, up to 30 minutes | Free |
| Lobby video stations | Daily 7:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. | Free |
| Free SMS messages | 8 per month, 100 characters or less | Free, then $0.10 each |
| Phone calls (all rates) | Local, in-state, out-of-state, international | $0.09 per minute |
| Email-style message | Per message | $0.50 each |
You can schedule a video visit at a lobby kiosk on the ground floor or from a computer at SmartInmate.com. Each adult in custody gets one free remote video visit a week on top of normal social visitation. Lobby times vary by custody status, by classification, and by whether someone else has booked the slot. For visiting or mail questions, call the jail Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., at 541-682-4263 and choose the jail and AIC information options.
Commissary and Inmate Funds in Lane County
Commissary lets adults in custody buy snacks, hygiene items, and other approved goods. Lane County runs commissary and money services through Access Securepak and Access Corrections. You can order items, send money, or do both, and there is more than one way to pay.
The Access Securepak catalog is the online store for ordering commissary packages.
Place orders through the Access Securepak catalog when you want to send approved items.
To put money on an account, use Access Corrections by phone at 1-866-345-1884, or use the kiosk in the jail lobby. Smart account funds work for prepaid calls, PIN debit, messages, photos, and remote video visits. Deposits and items both follow jail rules, so check current limits before you send anything.
Lane County Jail Records Requests
The viewer shows current custody, not history. If you need past lodging or release data, the county says it will still fill public records requests as allowed and required by law. That request goes to the Sheriff's Office, not to the courts, since the jail holds the booking history.
Court dispositions are a separate file. A booking record tells you a charge and a court date, but the outcome of the case lives with the court. For that you search court records or call the right court line. Keep the two paths straight to avoid a wasted request.
